Playing with Genre
130.00
In this class, we'll be questioning and breaking down genre conventions and rethinking what a piece of writing can be. This class may appeal to writers who love to write poetry, fiction, nonfiction/memoir, theory, etc., and even visual arts like photography and drawing, and are looking for a way to combine all of their interests into one piece. We would read and discuss excerpts from hybrid writers, which may include Claudia Rankine, Maggie Nelson, CD Wright, W.G. Sebald, Anne Carson and Carole Maso. Writers would bring in a short piece of their own hybrid work to workshop with the group. Students will leave the class with more confidence in their own pursuit of hybrid forms as well as as introduction to some writers that may continue to inspire them after the class is over.
