Octavia Butler Study Hall: Writing Magical, Imaginative Fiction
65.00
How do we write for the future? In this 3-hour seminar, we will focus on the narrative imagination of Octavia Butler, whose visionary stories spoke as much of her present as about our own. During the first portion of our class, we will read a chapter from "Wild Seed" and an interview with the author, to make connections and better grasp her approach to the craft of writing.
We will then use her creative principles to generate our own work in class. Our exercises will be dynamic, somatic, and just a little magical. At the end, participants will have an opportunity to read their work aloud.
Class Format
This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!
