Finding your way through a novel—whether the first draft or the final one—can be challenging. What should happen next? Why is this part less exciting? When and where do I end? In this class, we’ll make headway on our novels by focusing on structure — like a house, a story cannot stand if the fundamental underpinnings are unsound. At the same time, we’ll use a technique called “dream-storming” to help us create or refine this structure. How stories emerge is mysterious and we will channel some of that mystery to aid us in our craft. The process of writing can be as practical as it is magical, and these two elements are in play no matter where we are in our particular projects or our careers. Writing exercises, weekly workshops and various readings will complement our focus on structure through the access of the unconscious.

This class will be hosted using live Zoom meetings! You will be able to participate in class via Zoom videoconference from wherever you’re most comfortable. All you’ll need is a laptop or a phone! About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting via Zoom–no need to download anything or sign up for Zoom in advance! If you have questions about remote learning, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] for more information.
