First drafts of novels can be messy, amorphous, and daunting. On top of that, writers may often find themselves losing focus without support and guidance. That’s where Novel In Progress comes in. Over ten weeks, students will have two opportunities to share ten pages from their work, which the rest of the class will read at home in preparation for an in-class discussion. In addition to weekly workshops, we will do exercises and discuss craft issues such as characterization, the protagonist's desire, plot and outlining, point of view, voice, dialogue. In the last class, all writers will be invited to submit twenty pages of their novels to receive a written critique from the instructor. Novels of all genres are welcome. Please bring the first page (double-spaced, 12-point font) of your novel to the first class.

Please note: Class does not meet January 20th or February 17th.
