You have your fantasy creatures, spaceships, and story ideas - but what about the languages of your world? In this workshop, we will explore how language and culture interact, how they inform your character’s decisions, and basic principles of linguistics to help us invent languages for our stories. We’ll create a made-up language as a class, and also complete several exercises in order to build an original language for your story! By the end of this class, you’ll have notes on the basic vocabulary, grammar rules, and pronunciation of an invented language that you can use in your story, and an understanding of how to effectively use language in worldbuilding.
