Ever wonder how your favorite radio and podcast creators use sound and narrative to bring their stories to life? In this survey course of narrative radio, we will spend each of the first four weeks covering a different style: non-narrated documentary, narrated documentary, radio drama, and mockumentary. Students will get on the spot feedback as they learn the basics and experiment with each form in class. We’ll practice adapting our writing for the ear, and discuss and implement best practices for interviews, recording, and creating and gathering sounds.

In the last two weeks, students will work in and out of class on their own audio stories (or collaborate with a classmate). This course is perfect for total beginners, audiophiles, and established writers looking to expand their multimedia portfolios.
