Essentials of Magical Realism
65.00
It might sound like an oxymoron at first, but magical realism can be as real as life itself, making us interrogate everything we see. In literature, the genre and its history are particularly fun to explore. In this introductory seminar, we will delve into the magically real by reading samples from the genre's most famous subscribers (Gabriel Garcia Marquez), as well as some contemporary work (Aimee Bender, Kelly Link). We will discuss the elements that define the genre, and explore the wonderful possibilities it offers. You will produce our own piece through in-class exercises and have the opportunity to share your work and receive on-the-spot feedback. This class is for writers of any genre and level looking to experiment and fully immerse themselves in magical realism.
