Class Description:

Have you been wanting to make a podcast but don't know where to begin? This two week course will equip you with everything you need to create your own audio stories and podcasts using equipment you probably already know how to use: a mobile device. Learn and practice interviewing, recording, writing, storytelling, and editing--and leave with a completed, one to five minute radio story.

Audio is an exciting and personal medium. In this class, you’ll learn how to use sound to bring a story to life. You can choose to work on a personal essay, interview someone close to you, write a piece of fiction or poetry for radio—maybe even a radio play--it’s up to you! Week one we’ll jump right in listening, learning to record, and coming up with story ideas. In the second week, you’ll work with the instructor to script and edit your piece before presenting it to the class. You do not need your own equipment! GrubStreet will provide everything you need to make the most out of your creativity.

Takeaways:
By the end of the class, student podcasters will produce a finished audio segment of at least one minute. Segments can be longer, depending on each student’s individual progress and time investment.

**Note that this class spans 2 weeks, and runs for 2.5 hours each day. If you want to spend the whole day at Grub for two weeks, consider registering for this class as well as Creative Writing Immersion (Two Week)which runs from 1:30pm to 3:30pm on the same days!**

Scholarships:
Classes marked as “full” can still have scholarship spots available. So apply!
GrubStreet is happy to be able to offer some full scholarships for our teen writing camps. Please wait to hear from our Scholarship committee before registering for the class, as scholarships cannot be applied retroactively. Scholarships are distributed on a rolling basis, right up to 48 hours before class start. However, the sooner you apply, the better your chances of receiving a scholarship.

Who Should Register?
For writers ages 13 - 18 ONLY. Writing notebooks are available, but feel free to bring your own.

*If you are registering on behalf of your teen, add their email information in the “For a Friend or Child?” field on the right-hand side of the screen before you check out. This will send them a direct link and reminder to create their own profile with GrubStreet.
(After adding the class to your cart, click "Checkout" and click “Add” next to “For a Friend or Child?” on the right-hand side to fill in their email. This is an easy way of linking the class to your child and encourages them to create their own account.)
