In this three-hour crash course, we’ll discuss the basic elements of the short story. We’ll learn about characters, setting, and dialogue, and talk about what we really want from the good ol’ beginning, middle, and end. The class will include short lectures and discussions on various elements of craft, and we’ll look at several examples of published short stories to inspire us. We’ll have time for in-class writing exercises and on-the-spot feedback for your work. Please bring a laptop or a notebook!
