In this six week class, you will learn the techniques for writing effective dialogue, blocking scenes, brainstorming ideas, creating character profiles, and transforming your life experiences into compelling fiction. In short, you will be exposed to the creative transformation where personal experience meets imagination. Over the six weeks, you will workshop two finished stories or novel excerpts for presentation and discussion. There will also be discussions of published stories and writing theory provided by the instructor, including work by such authors as:

  • Robin Hemley
  • Amy Hempel
  • James Joyce
  • Jamaica Kincaid
  • Ernest Hemingway

This course is geared toward beginner and intermediate writers.
