Writing a balanced, page-turning novel that sticks to a plot that emanates from deep within character–one that feels organic, heartfelt, and that makes the reader care–can be an enormous challenge. In this seminar, we'll review of common plot tools out there for writers, and discuss in particular a "both pedals" approach to crafting plot: one that helps authors keep the story moving while also keeping an eye on its heart. Students will do guided freewrites about their own works in progress and have a chance to begin applying one or more plot tools to their own story.

Class Format

This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!
