6 Weeks, 6 Stories
Whether you want to expand your knowledge, experiment with new forms, or just produce fresh work, this fun, intensive class will give you the opportunity, over six weeks, to write six new short stories or scenes (500 to 1000 words) that might stand alone or be part of longer work. Each week, through a series of directed writing prompts, you’ll explore character development, plot, point-of-view, setting, dialog, etc., and in light workshop sessions, we’ll discuss these pieces together. Classes will also include further explorations of craft through analysis of short stories or excerpts from established authors. Writers we’ll consider may include Claudia Hernández, Clarice Lispector, Valeria Luiselli, Manuel Muñoz, Tommy Orange, Mary Robison, Zadie Smith, Anthony Veasna So, and others.
This class will take place in-person at our Center for Creative Writing in Boston's Seaport neighborhood.
GrubStreet's space will be mask optional when Boston's Covid-19 Community Level is low or medium. When the Covid-19 Community Level is high, our space will require masks. Please check GrubStreet's Covid-19 page for the latest info on masking and Community Levels before visiting in-person.
