Whether you're looking to experiment, produce new works for a collection, or work on revisions, this workshop offers the opportunity to broaden and deepen your knowledge of poetry. Each week, you will study the craft and vision of contemporary poets around a theme and respond to a prompt given in-class. You will share two poems a week, one from the in-class writing exercise and something else you’ve revised at home. This class will allow you to break old habits, play with unconventional forms, and, most importantly, leave the course with both fresh and revised drafts of many poems. We'll be looking at published work by from writers like Lucille Clifton, Duy Doan, Rita Dove, Terrance Hayes, Layli Long Soldier, and Xandria Phillips and studying the craft behind them.

This class will be hosted using live Zoom meetings! You will be able to participate in class via Zoom videoconference from wherever you’re most comfortable. All you’ll need is a laptop or a phone! About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting via Zoom–no need to download anything or sign up for Zoom in advance! If you have questions about remote learning, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] for more information.
