6 Weeks, 6 Picture Books

In this lively six-week class, you will produce six new picture book manuscripts (generally up to 600 words), both fiction and nonfiction, with an eye on submitting to children's book agents and editors in today's competitive market. Each week will include a short lecture on a particular aspect of picture book writing, with a close look at several recently-published picture books, as well as brief workshops of student manuscripts. Students should already be familiar with the picture book format—its restrictions and possibilities—and will leave the course with a deeper understanding of picture book markets. Not only that, but you’ll have six new manuscripts to develop or finalize for submission. 

Class Format

This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!

Scholarship Information

Thanks to the excellent literary citizenship of our donors, scholarships are available for all GrubStreet classes. To apply, click the gray "APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIP" button. In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must complete your application at least one week before the start date of a class. Please await our scholarship committee's decision before registering for the class. We cannot hold spots in classes, so the sooner you apply, the better. Scholarships cannot be applied retroactively.
