Sometimes the smallest moment (or the shortest essay) holds the greatest revelation. But when it comes to writing our own lives, it can be difficult to know where to begin. If you’re suffering from writer’s block, or, on the contrary, have so many ideas you don’t know how to commit to just one, this is the course for you. In this course, you will have one goal: to write four short personal essays.

Each week, we’ll explore a different essay form or theme to inspire our work with reading published examples and we’ll put the tools we learn into practice through a series of exercises and writing prompts. At the end of each week, you’ll submit a new essay draft of up to 1,500 words for impressions and feedback from your fellow writers, to help you identify and develop the “heat” of your essays.

You will come out of the course with four new drafts and the insight and inspiration to develop them into polished essays.

Class Format

This class will take place using Zoom videoconferencing. About 15 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, you'll receive an email from your instructor with a link to join the class meeting!
