“Writing While Working”: Muse and the Marketplace 2019 Keynote [VIDEO]

To help keep our spirits up and our words flowing, we're sharing Muse and the Marketplace keynote talks and special event videos from GrubStreet's past in a series called "From the Grub Archive." This week, we're sharing a Muse and the Marketplace keynote from 2019

Writing well is hard work and, well, most of us have to work hard doing something other than writing in order to have the time and space to write. It’s a tongue-twister and an age-old challenge that each of us faces, and yet few of us feel comfortable talking openly and honestly about it. In this candid, lively, poignant, and often hilarious panel, four authors – Mira Jacob, Daniel Jose Older, Rebecca Makkai, and Maurice Carlos Ruffin – discuss with moderator Rani Neutill the impact class, race, gender, and strokes of luck (good and bad) have had on their decisions to get, keep, or quit other jobs while writing.
