Why I Give Vol. 1: Helping All Writers Find Their Voice on the Page

In the lead up to our fall appeal, we asked members of the community why they give to GrubStreet. In this edition, donor and writer Cindy Richard tells us why she donates.

I donate to GrubStreet because I believe in what they do. They are committed to developing all types of writers, of all backgrounds and talent levels, and helping them all to find their voice on the page. As with any nonprofit, I know that they cannot run on good intentions alone. In order to have excellent faculty, great facilities, and the best programming, they need financial support above and beyond what they receive from memberships and workshop fees. I can see exactly where my money is being utilized because they continue to come up with new, innovative programs and to expand their reach in the community. In addition to programs, GrubStreet provides scholarships and grants to make sure that their services are accessible to all, and support from donors can go a long way towards helping them to provide services to all writers – not just to writers who can afford to pay. My life has been enriched in so many ways by being a part of GrubStreet – I’ve met wonderful people, participated in books clubs and on committees, and attended some of their conferences and workshops. I want everyone to have the same opportunity as I do to be a part of this inspiring community.
