Verbal Detectives: Uncovering Everyday Secrets through Writing
Ay Chum?! Got a lead on a story no one's seemed to notice? Seen a big truth that's been sitting right under all our noses? Got a favorite band, food dish, family member, TV series, character, or subject you think we can all learn from? Well here's the big secret- There are some stories and lessons only your mind and careful eye can uncover, all you gotta do is pick up the magnifying glass (and the pen!).
Our weeklong writing course will help brainstorm and organize your leads and give you the structure to help investigate them through writing on your own terms. We'll look at the work of fellow detective Poets, Essayists, and Journalists like Hanif Abdurraqib, Ahrm Choi Wild, José Olivarez, and more you'll have to discover for yourself. Whatever genre of writing you choose to investigate with, we'll be there to help. So, waddya say, pal, you gonna take the case?
This class is open to beginner and experienced teen writers working in any genre. Whatever style of writing you want to try or expand, bring your ideas, questions, and drafts, and create something fun in the company of other word lovers. For writers age 13 - 18 ONLY.
