Novel Generator Applications Due 1/10

Ready to write the first draft of your novel? GrubStreet’s Novel Generator is a 9-month program designed to help students at all levels complete the first drafts of their novels. Applications are due by 11:59PM on January 10th, 2022.

Writing a first draft is a very different process from revising a finished draft. A writer working on their first draft is discovering the answers to the most basic questions about their novel as they writes: Who are these people? What do they desire? Will they get what they want? What is this book really about? This program helps 14 students answer these questions in an environment that offers support, accountability and feedback appropriate to this early stage in the novel-writing process.

The Students

The main qualification for the Novel Generator is not polished prose or even an in-depth understanding of what your book is about. What we’re really looking for is passion and commitment. The ideal Novel Generator student feels an urgency in getting their novel written; they should be dedicated to completing the course, and their novel draft, in nine months. This course is geared for students at all levels, from first-time novelists to students who have completed the Novel Incubator or an MFA program but who wish to write a draft of a new novel in a structured, supportive environment. The only requirement is having taken at least one Novel in Progress or Fiction I class at GrubStreet, or the equivalent.
