NEW! Short Story Publishing Intensive for BIPOC Writers

The Short Story Publishing Intensive for BIPOC Writers is a capstone workshop is for BIPOC writers of various intersectional identities who have previous workshop experience, as well as a short story that has been extensively revised. This workshop will help BIPOC writers navigate the publishing side of writing, which has historically marginalized the voices of BIPOC writers.

During this workshop, you will add the finishing touches to a single short story that has been significantly revised as well as write an effective cover letter. Through critical workshops of your manuscript, visits from guests who have extensive publishing experience, and professionals from the publishing industry, you will gain knowledge of publishing standards and trends that may help to increase the probability of your manuscript being accepted for publication. You will work with your classmates and the instructor to identify specific publications and/or contests to submit your short story. The class will engage in a submit-a-thon event at the end of the workshop. When filling out the application, please submit the story you plan to work on in this workshop (6,000 word maximum). The application deadline is Monday, February 6th. Learn more & apply here!
