Hitchhiker's Guide to the Boston Book Scene

We all know AWP is next week (next week, oh my!), and it deserves all the attention you can give it.  But AWP is not a nefarious corporation, and it should not have a monopoly on your schedule.

Many authors will give readings on weeks other than AWP, including a double booking tonight – Jamaica Kincaid will read from her first novel in a decade at Harvard Book Store, and the monthly Dire Literary Series will meet just down the road with an open mic and some fine writers themselves.

Short story collections are in abundance these days and this month’s reading schedule reflects their popularity.  You can catch stories from a veteran writer as Jennifer Haigh reads from News from Heaven, and you can catch exciting new and newish voices with Jamie Quatro reading from her debut story collection with Megan Mayhew Bergman, who is following up her imaginative collection with a novel.

Read on for more names and dates, including George Saunders, Anne Carson and Joyce Carol Oates!

What events are you attending this month?  Is there an event that you’re excited about that we missed? Continue the conversation in the comments below!
