An Update for the GrubStreet Community

Last Updated: 10.16.21

Dear GrubStreet Community,

Since the recent New York Times Magazine article "Who is the Bad Art Friend?" was published, we've heard from many of you. I want to acknowledge that this is a very challenging moment for many writers in our community and for GrubStreet as an organization.

Since our founding, we have sought to be an inclusive space for writers where everyone feels welcomed and respected. I want to assure everyone who is part of our community that our organization will honestly reckon with any ways in which we’ve fallen short in living up to our values and we will do the work to address them. We are committed to handling this situation with clear-eyed self-reflection and integrity. Toward that end, we have initiated an internal review by an independent third party to conduct a thorough assessment of our own actions, policies, and practices. We appreciate your patience as we work to address this moment by leaning into our values and focusing on our mission.

In the meantime, our important work continues and our regular newsletters and class announcements will resume next week. Thank you for your support.

With gratitude,

Eve Bridburg
Founder & Executive Director
