Advanced Poetry & Essay Workshops Deadline Extended to 9/13!
We have extended the deadline to apply to our Advanced Poetry Workshop with Crystal Valentine and Advanced Essay Workshop with Theresa Okokon by another week! You have until 9/13 to apply. Our advanced courses are limited to 9 students to foster a closer and more rigorous learning experience.
Advanced Poetry Workshop
This workshop is for advanced poets who want to develop new content and deepen their craft. We’ll explore the building blocks of poetry: language, the line, poetic forms, narrative and lyric elements, and what we need to do to build the life of the poem. We'll see how what we learn manifests in our own work and that of accomplished mentor poets. We’ll write and revise ten poems and discuss making work public via readings and various types of publications.
Advanced Essay Workshop
In this advanced course, experienced students working on narrative, long-form personal essays will receive support, guidance, and feedback. We'll discuss elements of craft at a high level; try new forms, techniques, voices, and structures; and develop strategies for revision. Prompts, exercises, readings by exemplary authors, and discussion will help you see your own narrative personal essays with fresh eyes. We will read essays by authors such as, but not limited to: George M. Johnson, Carmen Maria Machado, Claudia Rankine, Jennifer De Leon, Grace Talusan, and Rebecca Solnit.
Get ready to take your writing to the next level and apply for an advanced workshop by Monday, September 13 at 11:59pm (EST).
